Mirvac demonstrates sustainability leadership and commitment in introducing new technologies and practical measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote energy and water saving practices in such projects Cambridge Apartments, Pacific Place, Chatswood, NSW with its innovative cogeneration energy system and our world leading six star Green Star retail development, Orion Springfield in southeast Queensland.
Mirvac’s approach and commitment to sustainability is well recognised with listing maintained on the United Kingdom’s FTSE4Good Global Index, the Australian SAM Sustainability Index (AuSSI). In 2008, for the third consecutive year, was Mirvac was included in the Goldman Sachs JBWere Climate Disclosure Leadership Index, acknowledging demonstrated leadership in disclosure across a range of investment-relevant climate change issues. Ashgrove Estate was awarded the 2008 Green Globe - Industry (Water) award from the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change and the sustainability features of Beachside Leighton were recognised with the 2008 HIA GreenSmart Design Concept Award (WA).
Mirvac is also recognised as having a strong commitment to the next generation of students who need to develop an understanding of the growing importance of sustainability and bring that knowledge into the business world. In June 2006 Mirvac partnered with Bond University to create the Mirvac School of Sustainability and Australia’s first tertiary programme in sustainable development.
Mirvac continues to develop and consolidate its sustainability strategy, the cornerstone of which includes clear performance objectives, targets and measures that provide the necessary structure for the Group‘s forward planning and expansion. Mirvac is currently actioning more than 100 commitments or performance targets across six sustainability priority areas.
