Ephraim Island lifestyle a winner for Darwin family
Darwin businessman Glen Phillips and his family almost discovered Ephraim Island on the northern Gold Coast by accident when they were looking for an apartment or residence for occasional holidays several years ago.
They purchased a waterfront villa at Ephraim Island and after many holidays there they loved the development so much they have now, due to business growth, relocated permanently from the Northern Territory and have just re invested again on Ephraim Island in a larger Beach House.
“We shifted down permanently about seven months ago and the waterfront villa is fantastic, but when the opportunity came up to buy one of the north facing beach houses which was owned by an Chinese investor we jumped in straight away,” said Glen.
“The lifestyle is fantastic, our neighbours are great and the kids just love it because there’s always plenty of mates for them to hang out with in safety , plus the swimming pools are terrific,” he said.
Glen and his wife Mary, and their two boys Kyle and Jake, had strong ties to the Gold Coast and also family living here. “We went to Darwin 25 years ago from the Gold Coast for business and it has been very kind to us, but with a new career opportunity and my mother living here at Runaway Bay we decided it would be a good time to consider a shift back so she can enjoy the grand kids and we can be closer,” he said.
“Originally we were looking at houses at The Sovereign Island and elsewhere on the northern Gold Coast and someone suggested we should have a look at Ephraim Island. “We did and when we found the waterfront villa we thought it would be perfect for us to use as a Gold Coast base while we transitioned from 25 wonderful years in Darwin.
“We used the Villa on and off for a few years and then moved in permanently about seven months ago. It’s a terrific lifestyle and with our boat in the marina it’s perfect for what we want to do on weekends or when we have some time off work.”
Glen said he and his family were content with their villa home but were looking for a fourth bedroom, so when the beach house came up for possible sale we jumped at the chance.
Ephraim Island has been developed in joint venture by Mirvac and the Lewis Land Group of Companies. The Promontory Precinct where Glen and his family live features 21 waterfront villas and seven absolute waterfront beach houses. There is currently one beach house remaining and it is on the market for $3.950 million.
The beach house they have purchased is north facing and overlooks the northern section of the marina and across to The Sovereign Islands. It has a basement carpark capable of accommodating up to six vehicles and then two levels above that which are serviced by a lift. The beach house has four bedrooms, large lounge and family room, its own swimming pool and an entertaining and dining terrace perched right on the waters edge.
The business Glen was involved with in the Northern Territory grew nationally and with a lot of travel involved in his position he said the security offered at Ephraim Island became a big draw card for his family.
