Tennyson Power Station
This site was acquired by the Brisbane City Council in 1947 where it built the Tennyson Power Station, which operated from 1953 to 1986. Located directly on the riverfront with easy access to Ipswich coal via rail, the site was identified as an ideal place to produce energy for the growing city of Brisbane.
For almost 20 years following the cessation of use, the building lay dormant and became decrepit and unsafe for public access. It was used as a setting for the filming of the Scooby Doo 2 movie and was also used on occasion for police exercises and training.
The building was demolished in 2006 so that this stretch of the Brisbane River could, for the first time, be enjoyed by the people of Brisbane. -

The architectural design of the Tennyson Reach apartments has been inspired by the site's proud history. Forms prevalent in the old Tennyson Power Station will live on, preserving the region's iconic past and integrating it with the riverside landscape. -
